Excavation in Osage County, KS
Osage County is about an hour south of our base in Mayetta, so we schedule work here and plan the trip around other jobs nearby. From the lake homes around Melvern and Pomona to the towns across the county, we dig sewer and water lines, build retaining walls, and move earth.
Osage County sits south of the Kansas River in the eastern part of the state, a mix of prairie towns, farm ground, and two large reservoirs. Lyndon serves as the county seat, and Osage City is the largest town. The county spreads out across open ground cut by creeks and the lake basins.
Melvern Lake and Pomona Lake are both in the county, and each one draws the land down toward the water. Lake homes and cabins sit on the hills and coves around the shorelines, and much of the land around the lakes is federal land. The lakes set the character of the eastern half of the county, and the excavation work near them follows the ground.
The drive from our base in Mayetta is about an hour, so we do not squeeze Osage County work into the same week. We schedule it, and we plan the trip around the other jobs we have in that part of the county. Call ahead and we will line your work up with them.
The work here runs from the lake homes to the farm ground. Around the lakes, it is sewer and water lines for cabins and second homes, retaining walls on sloped lots, and drainage down toward the water. Out on the open ground, it is long rural line runs, gravel lanes, and grading. We handle the full range across Osage County.
Lake homes and cabin sewer and water
A cabin or second home around Melvern or Pomona runs on a septic system or a sewer connection the same as a full time place, and the lines fail the same way. We cut the old line, lay and bed the new pipe, and backfill and grade the ground. Before we dig, we have the underground utilities marked through Kansas 811. See our sewer line installation page for how a replacement runs from start to finish.
If a lot borders the federal land around the lake, check what is allowed before work starts, because that land carries its own rules. We will help you sort out what we can and cannot touch before we bring the machines in, so the work stays on the right side of the line.
Planning the trip an hour south
An hour south is not far, but it is far enough that we plan the run. We do not promise same week work in Osage County the way we can closer to home. Instead, we put your job on the calendar and group it with the other jobs in your part of the county, so the drive pays for itself and each job gets the time it needs.
When you call, we will tell you straight away when we can be there and what else we have lined up in your area. We answer the phone during business hours, Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8am to 12pm, and we get back to every message the same working day.
Walls and drainage on sloped lots
The lots around the lakes sit on slopes that drop toward the water, and that ground calls for retaining walls and drainage that work together. A limestone retaining wall holds a driveway cut or a yard that wants to wash, and we start it below grade on a leveled base and set the stone course by course. See our limestone retaining walls page for how a wall goes together.
Drainage on a sloped lot is about moving the water off without taking the ground with it. We regrade the slope and run drain tile to carry the water away, so a low spot does not turn into a wash every spring. Good grading is mostly about water, and we read the ground before we move it.
The towns across the county
We cover the whole county, from Osage City and Lyndon out to Overbrook, Carbondale, Burlingame, Scranton, Quenemo, Melvern, and Vassar, and the country between them. Wherever your place sits in Osage County, we can get there.
