Drain Tile Repair and Replacement in Northeast Kansas
Fixing wet spots in fields and yards with new or replacement drain tile that actually moves water.
Drain tile repair and replacement is fixing the underground pipe that moves water out of your field, your yard, or the base of your foundation — the tile that keeps a low spot from turning into a swamp and keeps water away from your foundation wall. When the tile stops working, the wet spot comes back. We find the failure and fix it or put in new tile that actually moves water.
Drain tile is a perforated pipe buried in a trench filled with rock, set at a depth and a grade so water finds it, flows in, and runs out to a ditch, a creek, or a daylight outlet. In agricultural fields it lowers the water table so crops can grow instead of drown. Around a foundation it carries water away from the footing. In a yard it dries a soggy low spot. The principle is the same; the depth and the outlet differ.
Drain tile fails in a few ways: the pipe cracks or collapses, the rock fills with silt and stops flowing, the outlet gets buried or plugged, or roots grow in and clog the line. The symptom is the same — the water comes back where the tile was supposed to carry it. We find the failure by tracing the line, checking the outlet, and digging to the problem. A lot of drain tile repair is diagnosis before it's digging.
A repair is digging up the failed section, replacing it, and getting the grade and the outlet right so the new tile flows. A replacement is taking out the whole run and putting in new pipe and rock, often because the old tile is clay and full of silt and there's nothing left to fix. We can do both — and we'll tell you which one you've got before we start cutting.
The cost tracks the length, the depth, the soil, how hard the failure is to find, and whether it's a repair or a full replacement. A plugged outlet is a quick fix. A whole field of silted clay tile is a full replacement. We look at the run and the symptom and tell you what it takes.
If you've got a wet spot that used to drain and doesn't, or a foundation that's getting water it never used to, the drain tile may have failed. Tell us where the water's coming back and we'll come find the failure and fix it.
What affects the cost
We don't quote a number without seeing the ground. These are the things that change what a job takes — call us and we'll give you a real answer for your place.
- Length of the tile run that needs repair or replacement
- Depth of the tile and the soil — deeper and rockier is more
- Whether it's a spot repair, a section replacement, or a full new run
- How hard the failure is to find — a plugged outlet is quick, a silted line is more
- The outlet — whether it can daylight to a ditch or needs a new route
What to have ready before you call
- Where the wet spot or the backup is showing up
- Whether the tile is agricultural, foundation, or yard drainage
- Where you think the tile runs and where it outlets
- When the problem started and whether it's getting worse
- What's over the tile — field, yard, or around a foundation
What happens on the day
We trace the line and find the failure — check the outlet, dig to the problem, and locate the break or the silted section. We dig up the failed tile, lay new perforated pipe in a rock-filled trench on the right grade, and re-establish the outlet so the water has a place to go. We backfill, shape the surface, and clean up. We check the flow before we leave so we know the tile is moving water.
